Ortho Development Corporation (ODEV) hosted the bi-annual Utah Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Symposium (UHKAS) in Park City, Utah on April 14-17, 2021. Over 120 people, including more than 60 surgeons and healthcare providers from across the country gathered for three days of interactive learning and relationship building.
To kick off the event, several surgeon attendees participated in a hands-on cadaver lab where they learned primary total knee replacement techniques using ODEV’s BKS TriMax® system. Following the primary knee demonstration, the surgeons gained experience in revision knee arthroplasty using the recently launched BKS® Revision II System, featuring an industry-exclusive – with both sleeves and 3D printed cone implants. In addition to the cadaver lab, 35 attendees also toured ODEV’s manufacturing facility throughout the first day.
Chaired by Dr. Bernard F. Morrey and Dr. Matthew C. Morrey, the actual symposium commenced on the second day. Speakers presented on various topics including innovations that impact cost and value, managing infected joints, and trends in evidence-based practice. Later that afternoon, ODEV hosted a product fair to provide surgeons additional hands-on time with both instruments and implants from its growing portfolio of hip and knee joint replacement products.
UHKAS continued Saturday morning with topics and discussion focused on the latest concepts and trends in total hip and knee arthroplasty. The talks included varying perspectives on implants, instrumentation, technique and approach. The meeting concluded with brief remarks from both Bernard F. Morrey and Ortho Development President, Brent Bartholomew.
“This year marked the 10th time we have hosted UHKAS. Going back to the first meeting in 2002, our vision has been to create an environment where surgeons can not only learn from each other, but also connect in a unique, highly interactive way,” said Mr. Bartholomew. “From the incredible, world-renowned faculty, to the energy and enthusiasm of the many attendees, to the stunning mountain setting with plenty of freshly fallen springtime snow, this year’s meeting was our best ever. We are committed to providing surgeons with a wide range of professional development opportunities, and look forward to hosting UHKAS again in April 2023.”
