Ortho Development Corporation helps people do what they love by restoring mobility. We are passionate about designing and manufacturing the best, clinically-proven, high-performance orthopedic devices in the world. Our product focus is total hip and knee replacement; along with trauma fracture repair, and spine treatment.


Ortho Development was founded in 1994 and is a privately-held company, and is located in the Salt Lake City suburb of Draper, Utah. Our majority shareholder is Japan Medical Dynamic Marketing, Inc. (Japan MDM), a publicly-traded, Japanese medical device distribution company. Japan MDM has sales offices in 15 major cities and a presence in over 2,000 hospitals throughout Japan.

Ortho Development implants are manufactured with pride using the most advanced materials, latest technologies, and a steadfast commitment to quality. Patient safety is our top priority, and all product is inspected, cleaned, packaged, and shipped from the company’s headquarters in Draper.


Ortho Development products are distributed through a network of independent sales reps and distributors in the US, and a direct sales force in Japan. Our implants and instruments are being used by hundreds of surgeons at world-renowned orthopedic hospitals and teaching universities, and in a widespread number of regional and community hospitals.

Ortho Development Corporation can best serve the interests of patients and develop safe and effective medical devices through collaborations with Health Care Providers. Ortho Development has established a Code of Business Conduct that includes policies on interactions with Health Care Providers, and trains all employees, distributors, and sales representatives to these policies. Ortho Development is also a supporter of the AdvaMed Code of Ethics and participates in their Certification Program which includes an annual attestation of compliance with that Code of Ethics. Management Bios

Brent Bartholomew


Brent was named President of Ortho Development Corporation in 2009, and has served as a member of the Board of Directors since joining the company in February 1999. He has worked in various management and leadership roles at Ortho, including Executive Vice President, CFO, and Controller. Prior to Ortho Development, Brent worked in the Salt Lake City office of the global accounting firm Deloitte & Touche, where he specialized working with manufacturing and medical device clients. He is a native of Utah and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brigham Young University with both a B.S. and a Masters Degree in Accounting. Brent enjoys golf, running, biking and supporting BYU athletics.

Greg Larson

Chief Financial Officer

Greg joined Ortho Development in 2000 as Controller and was promoted to CFO in 2009. He directs all areas of Finance & Administration at Ortho including Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology and Customer Service. Greg also serves on the Board of Directors and is a key member of the company Business Plan Team that establishes vision, strategy, and objectives. Before joining Ortho Development, Greg worked for the global accounting firm Deloitte & Touche where he audited clients in various industries including manufacturing and medical device. He is a CPA and holds a Master of Accountancy and B.S. in Accounting from Brigham Young University. Greg’s interests include mountain and road biking, camping, and golf.

Ross Chamberlain

Senior VP of Sales

Ross has been involved in sales and management in the healthcare industry for over 30 years. He started his career in medical sales as a field representative, and after receiving several performance awards was promoted to field trainer. In 1988, he accepted a position as District Manager, beginning his long and successful career in sales management where he has also held the position of Director of Technical Affairs. In 2001, Ross was recruited to Ortho Development as the Vice President of Sales to help establish a U.S. sales presence and network. He oversees all aspects of U.S. sales and serves on the company's Board of Directors. In his free time, Ross has become a world champion in martial arts, and enjoys training dogs and hunting.

Stan Despres

VP of Product Development

Stan joined the company in his current Vice President role in 2009. He oversees all new product development activities. Stan was one of the original employees of Ortho Development in 1994 and was instrumental in launching the company's first bipolar hip product in 1996. He left Ortho to help start another orthopedic design company, and during his career has accumulated over 20 years of product development and manufacturing experience in the orthopedic industry. Stan is a native of New Hampshire and holds an Engineering Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Stan’s interests include farming, ranching, horse-back riding and rock climbing.

Rick Francis

Director of Business Development and International Sales

Rick has over 20 years of experience in the orthopedic industry, starting his career as an OR surgical technician followed by a move into joint reconstruction sales. He joined Ortho Development in 1999 as the first independent distributor in Utah, and is the company's foremost technical expert for knee and hip joint replacement. In early 2010, Rick took a business development role inside Ortho where he is active in building new accounts and providing technical training and support to hospitals, doctors, and the company’s sales force. In 2014, he accepted the additional role of Director of Marketing. Rick is a native of Utah and has a B.S. in Human Physiology. He enjoys travel and many outdoor activities including snow and water skiing.

Kevin Kinnersley

Director of Marketing

Kevin started his career in orthopedics in 1994 and worked for companies including Zimmer, DePuy, and Stryker in Sales and Sales Management capacities. He joined Ortho Development in 2015 as a Senior Marketing Manager. He has been his current role of Director of Marketing since 2016. Kevin brings over 23 years of orthopedic industry expertise, knowledge, and leadership to Ortho Development. He holds a B.S. in Consumer and Community Studies from the University of Utah. He enjoys spending time with his family, coaching football, fly fishing and many other outdoor activities.

Mark Alley

Director of Operations

Mark joined Ortho Development in 2011, and oversees Planning and Sourcing, Manufacturing, Distribution, and Facilities. Mark began his operations and logistics career with Mattel in 1992, and transitioned to the medical device industry in 1998 when he joined Zimmer. At Zimmer, Mark had progressive oversight and responsibility within the orthopedic business segments and led numerous projects including integration, global inventory management, and manufacturing optimization. Originally from Butte, Montana, he graduated from Montana Tech and also holds an Executive Certificate in the Business of Life Sciences from Indiana University. Mark enjoys the many outdoor activities available in Utah and is an avid Los Angeles Rams fan.

Drew Weaver

Director of Quality and Regulatory Affairs

Drew has worked in the medical device industry since 1990 including management positions in regulatory affairs, quality, marketing, and product development. His background includes electro surgery, cardiac and patient monitoring, arterial and venous access, and custom procedure tray manufacturing. Drew joined Ortho Development in 2015 as Director of Quality and Regulatory Affairs where he works to drive continual improvement in the company’s Quality Management System and regulatory activities. He is a native of Torrance, California and holds a B.S. in engineering and a Masters of Business Administration from Brigham Young University. In his free time Drew enjoys travel, history, and is active in community issues and events.

Steve Phippen

Director of Corporate Affairs

Steve began his career in the orthopedic device industry back in 1986 and has a background in sales, marketing, and distribution. Prior to joining Ortho Development, Steve worked at Zimmer as a Sales Associate and he was an independent distributor for DePuy in Utah and southern Idaho. He joined Ortho Development in 2007 and has worked in multiple positions including Director of Marketing, Rocky Mountain Region Sales Manager, and his current position, Director of Corporate Affairs. In his current role, Steve is responsible for hospital contract negotiations and the management of distribution and sales representative contracts. Steve is a native of Utah and enjoys outdoor activities including skiing and cycling.

Russ Stout

Director of Business Planning

Russ began his career in the orthopedic device industry in 2006 and has a background in engineering and operations. Prior to joining Ortho Development, Russ was a First Responder for the United States Air Force. Russ joined Ortho Development in 2006 and has worked in multiple positions within Quality, Product Development, and Manufacturing Engineering. In his current position as Director of Strategic Business Planning, Russ is responsible for coordinating the company’s integrated business planning and product development gateway processes. Russ holds an engineering degree from Brigham Young University. In his free time, Russ enjoys mountain biking, climbing, and automotive projects.

Rich Gray

Area Sales Director West U.S.

Rich joined Ortho Development as a regional sales manager in 2008 and is currently the Area Sales Director for the Western U.S. Rich began his career in medical device sales in 1999. He has extensive experience and expertise in orthopedics sales and total joint reconstruction, working as both a distributor for Smith & Nephew and in sales management for Karl Storz Endoscopy. In his role as Area Sales Director, he works with management in the hiring and training of new regional managers. Rich and his family reside in Hermosa Beach, California where he is a skilled surfer and enjoys college and pro sports.

Brian Hughes

Area Sales Director East U.S.

Brian joined Ortho Development as a regional sales manager in 2011 and is currently the Area Sales Director for the Eastern U.S. Brian has worked in the healthcare industry in both sales and management positions since 1999 where he began as a representative for Pfizer and then moved to medical device sales working for DePuy Mitek, Karl Storz, and Arthrex. Since joining Ortho Development, he has gained a passion for orthopedics and an expertise in total hip and knee replacement. Brian graduated from Brigham Young University earning an MBA in Organizational Behavior and Business Leadership. He lives in Orlando, FL, is fluent in Japanese, and is an avid skier, fisherman, and Boston Red Sox fan.
